Our next community supper is fast
approaching. It will be held on March 14
at the First Presbyterian Church.
We could use some more help with
dishwashing, dining room and serving.
Please plan to help from 3:30 to 5:30
p.m. Please sign-up on the Missions
bulletin board.
Mission of the Month
Stable Hands Therapeutic Riding Program
Stable Hands is a non-profit organization operating since 1992 that uses horses as
therapy for special needs children and adults. We are a member of North American
Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) which provides our guidelines and
safety standards. A large volunteer staff assists with riding lessons. Horses that are
calm and patient are used in our program and we use adaptive riding equipment. Our
instructors have extensive knowledge of horses and their lessons are designed to best
suit the needs of the students in the class.
We provide this service to a variety of individuals with special needs and conditions
such as blindness, deafness, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Sclerosis, Spina Bifida and Autism.
The slow rocking movement of the horse has been shown to stimulate nerves and
muscles and help build better balance. Through a variety of games and activities on
horseback, riders challenge themselves to build on their strengths and gain confidence.
It’s also a lot of fun!
On “Graduation Day”, our students receive a special certificate of achievement and
a trophy for their efforts. Staff members and families cheer and clap for them and
pictures are taken. It is so rewarding to see their
smiles and share in their success.
To meet the needs of the community, Stable Hands
will be starting a capital campaign to raise funds to
build our own full time facility.
